Boars Head heifers had yet another successful show this month with Boars Head Meierisli 5th winning the yearling heifer class under judge Roger Birch. This one is by our senior stock bull Seaview Prince Charming and is out of the Balmano Hitman daughter Oakhill Meierisli 13. Winning the two year old class was the Beeches Nashville daughter Boars Head Heidi, while Boars Head Nelly, a Seaview Prince Charming daughter stood fourth in the same class. The three heifers then stood second in the group of three class.

Our 2012 show season kicked off in style with fantastic results at Heathfield Show this month where our two year old heifer, Boars Head Heidi, who is owned in partnership with Tina Russell, won the Any Other Continental two year old heifer class under judge Paul Barwood, Norfolk, and then went on to take the female and Any Other Continental Breed championship before standing female and overall interbreed champion of the show under judge John Coultrip. She also took the special Jubilee award for overall cattle champion of the show under judge John Giffin. Heidi is by Beeches Nashville and is out of Oakhill Heidi 2nd, who is an Oakhill Moka daughter.

At the same show we also took third prize in the two year old heifer class with Boars Head Nelly, a March 2010-born Seaview Prince Charming daughter out of Oakhill Nelly 20 who is a Popes Laird daughter. These two heifers then teamed up with our yearling heifer Boars Head Meierisli 5th, another Seaview Prince Charming daughter, to stand second in the any Other Continental group of three. Our next show will be the south of England Show in June.

We’re pleased to announce the arrival of new stock sire Clonagh Buckarooney Truely, purchased at the Irish Simmental Society’s Premier Show and Sale at Roscommon this month for €6000.

Bred by Garrett and Lyndsey Behan, Co Laois, he is by the three times National Show champion Banwy T-Rex, a sire who is breeding some phenomenal cattle in the Clonagh herd. His dam, Clonagh Truly Scrumptious is a stylish ET-bred daughter of Raceview King out of Clonagh Edel, a Hillcrest Butcher daughter. He is full brother to Clonagh Awesome Truly who was champion at the National Ploughing Match in 2010 and is three quarter brother to the three times National Champion Clonagh Absolutely Fabulous. He was purchased for his fantastic bloodlines and his natural fleshing ability, kind nature and correctness and will be used on Seaview Prince Charming daughters.

We’re pleased to announce the arrival of the January 2007-born Hockenhull Trudy 36th, purchased privately from Ann and Tony Jukes, Sandhurst, Kent. Trudy was originally purchased at the Hockenhull dispersal, but due to a need to reduce the numbers slightly in the Swallowhill herd, we have been able to secure these new bloodlines for the herd. Trudy is a daughter of the ET-bred sire Hockenhull Norman and is out of the Blackford Harvester daughter Hockenhull Trudy 27th.

We’d like to wish James Orr, Duns, Berwickshire, the best with Boars Head Nelly 2nd, a Seaview Prince Charming daughter out of the Starline Klassic daughter Oakhill Nelly 21st, who he purchased for 1700gns in Stirling this month. Prince Charming continues to breed exceptionally well for us and we often have females and bulls for sale by him.

It’s been a busy couple of months at Boars Head with private sales and success at the East of England Smithfield Festival Simmental calf show.

Firstly in November we were delighted to sell Boars Head Snowdrop 2nd in a private deal to John Hawkins’ Chates herd at Cowfold, West Sussex. Snowdrop is an August 2010-born daughter of our herd sire Seaview Prince Charming and is out of the Blackford Falcon daughter Fole Snowdrop 15th. We’d like to wish John all the best with Snowdrop.

December saw the calf show and the trip to the Peterborough Showground proved a successful one as Boars Head Nelly 2nd, another Prince Charming daughter out of Oakhill Nelly 21st, stood second in the September-born heifer calf class, while Boars Head Berbaton 10, a September 2010-born son of Prince Charming again, stood third in a competitive September-born bull calf class. Berbeton is out of Boars Head Grace 2nd, a daughter of Dovefields Gallant, and is yet another successful result of the prolific Grace family which goes back to one of our early foundation females Wistow Grace 40th. Berbaton, who has a TI of +29 and a SRI of +34, has since been sold in a private deal to pedigree breeders G D Key and Son, Norwich, Norfolk, for an undisclosed figure.

The trip to Stirling for us this month proved worthwhile as we took the overall reserve female championship with Boars head Miranda 2nd, a January 2010-born daughter of Seaview Prince Charming out of the Balmano Hitman daughter Swallowhill Miranda. This stylish dark red and white heifer sold for 2000gns to James Hunter, Slamannan, Falkirk.

Our heifer, Boars Head Grace 6th, another daughter of Prince Charming and this time born in April 2010 out of Curlieu Jasper daughter Wistow Grace 40th, sold for 1800gns to G D Key and Son, Norwich, Norfolk. We’d like to wish both buyers the very best of luck with both heifers.

Taking a first in the yearling heifer class at Bucks County Show was Boars Head Nelly, a daughter of our senior stock bull Seaview Prince Charming out of Oakhill Nelly 20th. Also at the same show we stood second with Boars Head Heidi, who is by Beeches Nashville and is out of Oakhill Heidi 2nd.

At the end of August, the same two heifers were at Edenbridge and Oxted Show where Boars Head Nelly stood second in her yearling heifer class and Boars Head Heidi stood third in her class.

We had a successful show at this year’s Kent Show under judge Michael Barlow, with Boars Head featuring heavily in the junior heifer classes. We took a first in the class with Boars Head Nelly, while Boars Head Heidi stood second and Boars Head Miranda stood fourth. In the two year old class we stood third with Boars Head Grace. New to this year’s show was an interbreed junior sweepstake competition open to all breeds born in 2010. It was a switch in proceedings as we won this with Boars Head Heidi and stood second with Boars Head Miranda, while Boars head Nelly stood fourth. Heidi then went on to take the championship and Miranda stood reserve champion.

Our first trip to the East of England Show paid dividends for us this year as our yearling heifer Boars Head Heidi (owned in partnership with Tina Russell) won the yearling heifer class and was then tapped out as junior heifer champion. Heidi is by Beeches Nashville and is out of Oakhill Heidi 2nd.
